You may pay with cash, check, or major credit cards (including HSA account debit cards) through my secure online portal.

No, but I can provide a “superbill” (essentially a receipt with all the information the insurance company would require) for you to submit for reimbursement. However, you are responsible for payment of your full fees regardless of whether you get reimbursed.

Please be aware that most insurance plans cover psychotherapy only for certain kinds of treatment of certain specific psychological disorder diagnoses. Therapy to address relationships, life transitions, and personal growth is often not covered. Check with your insurance provider to determine what your policy includes.

I do reserve a portion of my practice to offer low-fee services to those who are unable to pay my regular rate. If you’d like to explore this possibility, please get in touch and we can discuss your situation. If I don’t currently have any of these openings available, you can get on my waiting list.

I do have some weekday evening appointments available, and I will sometimes schedule extended couples sessions (3 or 4 hour appointments) on weekends. Once we have established our professional relationship, you will be able to schedule appointments using my online calendar.

I have a 24-hour cancellation policy. The full fee for each session is due unless cancelled or rescheduled 24 hours in advance.

Couples typically find that shorter sessions, especially in the early stages of assessment and treatment, are frustrating and delay the change they are seeking. Longer sessions ensure that each partner really feels heard, that I have a real sense of what’s going on, and they allow us to make more rapid progress. The same goes for families, although for those with younger children we may decide that shorter is better.

I see people in all kinds of relationships! Although my website content sometimes refers to “marriage,” I really mean that as a shortcut for any kind of intimate relationship, whether or not there is a legal marriage. I work with married couples, dating couples, never-going-to-marry-but-are-totally-committed couples, monogamous couples, couples and others in polyamorous and other non-monogamous relationships. I’m also kink-friendly.

While obviously working with both members of the couple together will typically be most effective in creating lasting change in the relationship, individual therapy can be a good option for those whose partners are unable or unwilling to attend. Among other things, you will have the opportunity to explore your own experience in the relationship, identify your own goals and preferences, and develop strategies you can implement to be the person you want to be within the partnership.

I have enjoyed working with people with a variety of orientations and identities. Very often, the issues that bring queer people to counseling — and the ways we’ll approach it — are the same as anyone else; when relevant, our work may be enhanced by exploring the ways in which your unique experiences related to orientation and identity impact (or are impacted by) your situation. If your concerns are more specifically related to queer issues, you might be more comfortable with someone with more extensive experience in those areas. I’d be happy to discuss it with you and make a referral if appropriate!

Click here to schedule a 15-minute initial phone consultation with me. We’ll briefly discuss your needs and decide whether I’m the right person to help you, or if I can point you to other resources. Once we’ve decided to work together, I’ll send you an email with a link to set up your online portal where you can fill out your initial paperwork, schedule sessions, and arrange payments if you choose. I look forward to hearing from you!
